Petanque Game Rules

Petanque is played with steel balls and a wooden ball called a colander or piggy bank. The balls are thrown out of a circle with a diameter of about 50 cm, the circle must be at least 1 meter away from all obstacles or boundaries of the field. When throwing, both legs must rest on the ground and in a circle until the thrown ball hits the field. No other part of the body must touch the ground inside the circle.

Two teams of three players can play against each other – the so-called triplettes (each player has two balls), two teams of two players – the so-called doublettes (each player has three balls), or the player against the player – the so-called aunt and aunt (each player has three balls).

The squad must count the game within 5 minutes of the announcement of the match, and it is not possible to exchange players during the game. The goal of the game is to place more of your own balls closer to the piggy bank than the opponent. At the beginning of the game, players draw a squad that starts, and the novice player throws a piggy bank out of the circle. The distance of the piglet from the place of throw must be 6 to 10 meters and must not fall closer than a meter from all obstacles and boundaries delimiting the field. The piglet must be visible from the place of discarding. The first ball is thrown by the squad that threw the piggy bank. Then one of the members of the opponent's squad continues the game, trying to play his ball better (closer to the piggy bank) than the opponent.

One way to get your ball closer to the piglet is to zoom in. The second possible way is to knock out – hitting the opponent's ball and shooting it away from the piggy bank. If the player gets his ball closer to the piggy bank, his opponent comes in again. In case of confusion, which sphere is closer, the distances of the balls from the piglet are measured. If the player does not get his ball closer to the piggy bank than the opponent, his squad must continue to play until he succeeds. In this way, both teams take turns in the game until the end. At the end of each game, points are counted.

The team gets as many points as the balls are closer to the piggy bank at the end of the game than the nearest ball of the opponent. The team that is the first to score a total of 13 points (in the case of a shortened game of 11, or in the final 15 points) wins the entire match. The new game begins with the casting of a piggy bank by the team that won the previous game. The new throwaway circle is distinguished in place of the piggy bank's position from the last game.
